ThermaHelm Cooling Helmet can turn out to be a live saver [w/video]

ThermaHelm Cooling Helmet can turn out to be a live saver [w/video]

Brain swelling is the immediate effect of head injury and it is a proved fact that the stopping of this effect can make the difference between life and death because of the pressure that the brain has to subdue when it meets the skull. This is precisely what paramedics are trying to prevent when applying a cold pack on the head of accident victims. So hearing about ThermaHelm having created the Brain Cooling Helmet, we started digging deeper into this potential life saving idea, only to find that the prototype stage is now completed and it should see production.

ThermaHelm’s Cooling Helmet works by storing separately gel or water and ammonium nitrate in a slim plastic packet positioned in the lining. During a serious crash, tiny spikes pierce through the separate compartments, causing the ammonium nitrate to mix with the gel or water, triggering an endothermic reaction that cools the brain, dramatically reducing the effects of the crash. Furthermore, it features an LED indicator that warns premature activation, small cameras that are able to record those crucial 60 seconds before a motorcycle crash, integrated Bluetooth headphones and fog-free visors. In other words, it brings helmets into the 21st century.

Press release and video are attached after the jump.

Video: Vespa commercial makes Harley-Davidson rider look bad

Starting from the idea that everyone loves Vespas – including Harley-Davidson riders – this commercial shows such a rider getting up close and personal with the gorgeous ET4 model, which makes the subject of the video ad.

This is the kind of humor that we like to see in motorcycle/scooter commercials and the fact that this one shows both does the trick big time.

2010 Pirelli Calendar is probably the sexiest so far

This is the inside video from the making of the 2010 Pirelli calendar. It shows 12 beautiful girls (the most beautiful we’ve seen so far) in swimming suits, which is enough to keep our minds away from motorcycles until tomorrow.

Valentino Rossi rides dirt bike for a good cause

Nine-time World MotoGP Champion Valentino Rossi has organized the Motocross dei Campioni event at Cavallara in Italy and participated at the charity run in order to raise funds and help treat children suffering of leukaemia at a hospital in Pesaro, Italy.

The event gathered more than 10.000 people, among which Andrea Dovizioso, Julian Simon, Marco Simoncelli, Loris Capriossi and Marco Melandri were the other names associated with motorcycle racing.

Looks like The Doctor is no stranger to dirt riding either, as the attached video shows.

Save yourself with the 2010 Harley-Davidson model range

HD’s 2010 model range offers 10 new ways to “save yourself,” just as the song in their latest video suggests. Among these, the Electra Glide Ultra Limited, Dyna Wide Glide, Fat Boy Special, XR1200X and the Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) models are the ones we like best. For more information, click here.

Cowboys and their HD metal horses

When you’re given a school assignment related to cowboys and you come up with a very cool commercial for Harley-Davidson motorcycles, you can really show the teacher that you may very well have more talent than him.

Ok, so although this is not a real Harley-Davidson ad, it sure looks like one, so check it out.

GRACE – world’s first legal street E-motorbike

Get the Flash Player to see the videos.

It may look like a bicycle from the next century and the fact is that it has all the benefits of the original two-wheeler, but the Grace E-motorbike features a CNC-aluminum frame, which is fitted with eurofighter and Formula One parts. This, together with the 1300 watt lithium ion-powered motor, allows the handmade mean of transportation to reach a top speed of 40 mph and keep on going for as little as 18 miles and as much as 31 miles. It takes one hour for the battery to charge and when it’s dead, riders can pedal their way home.

Still, the Grace should stay true to its name around the city and considering that it is made in the company’s Hanover, Germany shop, reliability isn’t something to worry about. Suddenly, we start looking with different eyes to the good old scooter or the newer Segway, but the first question that pops into mind when seeing this is how much will it cost and when we’ll be getting it. The company says the Grace will cost €5877 ($8742) when it ships in January. Sorry, I forgot to mention you should sit down before further reading.

2010 BMW HP2 Sport Motorsport for those lucky Europeans

2010 BMW HP2 Sport Motorsport for those lucky Europeans

BMW has recently revealed the HP2 Sport Motorsport, a limited edition of the HP2 Sport, which will be available in Europe in a limited number of only 400 units.

The Motorsport edition stands apart from the standard model thanks to the special color scheme, identical to that of the motorcycle with which BMW participated in the World Endurance Championship.

Until the release of the S 1000 RR superbike, the HP2 Sport was the sportiest model in the German manufacturer’s model range, while also representing the technological pinnacle in matter of boxer engines. The air/oil cooled two-cylinder engine develops 133hp and 115 Nm and the bike has a dry weight of only 178 kg / 392.4 lbs. Hit the jump for a video of the standard model in action.

2010 Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa promotional video

Replacing the Diablo Corse III next year in the World Superbike Championship is Pirelli’s Diablo Rosso Corsa, which the Italian tire producer developed to offer more grip in both dry and wet conditions for more miles than its predecessor.

Pirelli promotes their new product with an ad that, to us, looks better than ones we’ve seen for motorcycles. Check it out for yourself.

Self assembling Suzuki GSX-R

Leaving the parts of your Suzuki GSX-R spread around the garage turns out being an inspired choice as the magic attraction between these get the bike together in less than five minutes.

Actually, this video was done with the use of stop-action photography in order to show the most important steps of the assembly process without showing the actual people that got the job done. I wonder if that’s also the way things get done back in Japan.
