Still high on the success of their Passat based Comfort Coupe, the German automaker Volkswagen is playing around with the design of their classic hatchback to incorporate a Golf sized compact four door into the lineup. If it ever does come to fruition, you can expect the Golf CC to start showing up only two years after the after the seventh generation hatchback arrives in showrooms, something that is slated for 2012. On paper the 2014 Golf CC will technically be a saloon due to its four door layout, but to the eye the CC’s signature coupe like profile will its arched roofline and tapering rear window will make it appear to be a much sportier ride. The Golf’s theme of practicality will continue on the inside thanks to space conscious folding rear seats to maximize usability and at the same time the interior of the smaller Comfort Coupe promises to be a bit more luxurious than the standard hatchback.
After seeing MTM’s customization program for the new Golf GTD we know that Honda and Mugen don’t have a monopoly on the modified hatchback market. As further proof, the German tuning house ABT Sportsline has just come up with a kit of their own for the diesel burning turbocharged Golf VI. Aside from giving the TDI hatchback a 50 HP kick in the pants with one of their ABT Power units, the Germans have also reworked the Golf’s exterior to further suit their own brand of style.
The aero mods include a new front bumper with much more angular intakes as well as a set of stylish strips of LED driving lights. Out back the new rear diffuser makes room for ABT’s signature quad tipped exhaust pipes while an oversized wing keeps things planted at speed. Finishing off the design, ABT is offering a few wheel and tire options with their sporty AR and BR models available in either 18 or 19 inches in diameter. The alternatively fueled 2.0 Liter power plant now makes a total 190 HP and a very diesel like 288 lb-ft of torque, and although it may not sound so impressive going from 0 to 60 MPH in 7.1 seconds isn’t too bad for a diesel, and neither is a 143 MPH top speed. The best part about tuning a diesel is that when you are done you’re still driving a green vehicle.
In its standard version the Volkswagen Golf GTD is powered by a 2,0 liter TDI engine that delivers 170 hp. Not bad for a diesel car, no? But MTM decided it can do better. And with a few little modifications they managed to raise the engine’s output to 205 hp.
Besides that the MTM GTD also comes with a black paint, a new exhaust systems, performance brakes, sport suspensions and 19 inch bimoto sport alloy rims which underline the vehicles character and sporty look.
No words on how the car’s performances have been improved, but stay tuned and we will let you know soon!
Volkswagen is offering a new engine for both Polo and Golf. The new 1.2l TSI is delivering a total of 103 hp and 175 Nm at 1,500 rpm. The engine is based on an aluminum crankcase and the completely re-tuned direct injection provides smooth power development, low consumption and low emissions.
With this new engine, Volkswagen continues this intelligent downsizing and transfers new forward-looking TSI technology to even smaller displacements. The new engine is now available to order for the Polo, Golf and Golf Plus.
Volkswagen has just unveiled a new wagon, the Golf Estate, the fourth model based on the popular VW, next to the three door and five door Golfs and the latest Golf Plus. The Estate will be available in three different trims: Trendline, Comfortline and Highline, the last one replacing the Sportline version as the top of the line model.
At the moment, the Golf Estate will be offered with only a single gasoline engine, a 122 HP TSI four banger; and two turbo diesel options, making either 105 HP and 140 HP. In the near future, Volkswagen will add two Multipoint engines pumping out 80 HP and 102 HP as well as another TSI engine making 160 HP.
The exterior the car features a new bumper, new grill, modified fenders, headlights and a restyled hood. All inspired by the new compact Golf.
Standard equipment for the Estate includes: ESP, six airbags, daytime running lights, roof racks, power windows, shift light, heathed mirrors, split folding rear bench right in front of over 50 cubic feet of storage space. When the Volkswagen Golf Estate goes on sale in Germany, prices will start at 18,500 Euro (about $26,000).
The two cars, which both use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged TSI engine, can both churn out as much as 260 horsepower with an electronic limit of 250 km/h.
In addition to sharing the same engine, the two R models were also outfitted with 17-inch allows, modified bumpers, a shiny and glossy grille, a sports rear spoiler, sports seats, pedals, and a racing steering wheel.
After catching the promotional video of the two cars running roughshod on a race track, it’s safe to say that the wait for these two R-models has been long and anxious.
If you’re interested to avail either one of the two, head on over to your nearest VW dealership; the Golf R goes for €36,400 while the Scirocco R sells for €33,475.
The Volkswagen Golf is getting a little greener with the recent release of the second generation BlueMotion Rabbit. Although the alternatively fueled car is going on sale in its home market of Germany, we should expect to see the TDI powered 62 MPG Golf stateside sometime in the near future, that is if Americans can shake their distaste for diesels. Aside from the less refined fuel burning power plant Volkswagen’s engineering team has built a few more economical features into the new Golf BlueMotion, starting off with a brake energy regeneration unit. A start/stop function that automatically turns off the engine at idle to save gas when stopped at a traffic light, a gear recommendation unit to keep you on the right cog for optimum efficiency and a set of lightweight aerodynamic wheel wrapped in low rolling resistance tires as well as a slight drop in ride height.
All of those items help the Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion to make the most out of what it has under the hood. That would be a 1.6 Liter TDI power plant that delivers a very economical output of 105 HP connected to a very tall five speed gear box that could theoretically lap the Nurburgring’s Nordschleif almost five times on only one gallon of diesel. Although the other gas has caught a bad wrap over the years, modern day diesel fuel is much cleaner than it used to be and the result is nothing like the soot stained chimneys on top of 18 wheelers. Most new diesel automobiles make use of high tech particulate filters and with exhaust treatment systems in order to comply with the current regulation restrictions in Europe. With less moving parts and a whole heck of lot better fuel mileage, the 21,560 Euro Golf BlueMotion is a very practical solution to personal transportation.
The German tuners at Motoren Technik Mayer Tuning have just come out with a stellar example of the world’s favorite sport compact car, the Volkswagen GTI. While the standard Golf VI GTI comes from the factory with 210 HP 2.0 Liter TFSI four cylinder engine and the automaker planning on releasing a turbocharged all wheel drive version making an impressive 270 HP and will almost certainly carry a pretty premium. The new MTM VW GTI promises to deliver power on par with the Golf R and should save owners quite a few quid while doing it.
For the fraction of the difference between the two cars, owners can upgrade their front wheel drive hot hatch with MTM’s tuning program that raises output to match the Golf R at 270 HP but also raises torque to a total of 295 lb-ft of twist with a simple air filter and reflashed ECU that also raises the GTI’s top speed to 165 MPH. In order to handle the additional power MTM offers a variety of high performance clutches and a variety of Brembo brake setups to bring the high speed high jinks to a quick halt. Finishing off MTM’s latest show piece are a set of their signature Bimoto lightweight rims measuring 19 inches in diameter and finished in a similar black to compliment the decorative stripe that runs along the base of the doorsill. The German tuner is offering an all around upgrade for the Golf VI GTI that make it almost as good as the upcoming Golf R for a lot less money.
The Volkswagen Golf is another iconic shape from Germany. The original Rabbit started the hot hatch craze as well as giving the tuner car market a boost. Just like its high performance cousin the 911, the practical Volkswagen continues to become larger, heavier and more sophisticated. With the brand new MkVI Golf scheduled to arrive in the U.S. as a 2010 model, all while European drivers have been scooting around in one of the world’s best loved hatchbacks since this past January. However it looks as if the sleeker five door hatchback may be short lived. According to the automotive sleuths at Auto Express, because they have already found official images of what the soon to be seventh generation Golf and it might just surprise you as to exactly who they came from.
AE is claiming that these are official images leaked onto the web by none other than Volkswagen themselves. This is not as far fetched a plan as you may think. After a few extra attentive hyper milers caught a few designers working one something interesting in the background of the “New Volkswagen L1 Concept Car Design Package” (after the jump) Internet video. At exactly 4:36, a trio of designers are working on a clay model of an even sleeker hatchback with sharper lines and bolder fenders. It just so happens that these new images reflect the cues of that model very closely. So perhaps knowing that the jig was up, VW simply decided to beat all the spy photographers and computer aided imagineers to the punch by releasing it themselves.
If this is the case and the Golf VII has already taken shape, you can expect that what we here in the U.S. are looking forward to might be short lived in order to make space in showrooms for what you are looking at. However if the German automotive conglomerate continues to do business as usual we will have to wait until the European market has had their fun with the new car before U.S. drivers can have a go behind the wheel. Even if the Golf VII is slated for a 2012 release, it may not arrive in the U.S. until as late as 2014, giving the new 2010 Golf VI a few years to shine in the spotlight on Volkswagen of America’s sales sheets.

Together with the 2010 Golf, Volkswagen USA also revealed details on the hotter version GTI. Sales will begin at a price of $23,290.
For 2010 the GTI comes with a more aggressive front end featuring the hallmark black honeycomb grille with the GTI badge on the passenger side, and the distinct red stripe outline, which flows into the new angled teardrop headlight housings. Two halogen fog lamps, a more subtle pair of black side skirts, newly-shaped taillights and 17 x 7-inch alloy wheels accentuate the car’s sporty character.
The 2010 GTI US versions is powered by 2.0-liter 16-valve DOHC turbocharged and intercooled four-cylinder gasoline engine that delivers 200 hp at 5,100 rpm, and 207 lbs.-ft. of torque from 1,800 all the way up to 5,000 rpm (the European version delivers 207 hp). With the standard six-speed manual transmission, the GTI can go from a zero to 60 mph in 6.8 seconds, and on to an electronically limited 130 mph top speed (140 mph on the European one).
