Video: Bacardi’s PSA features one ’Maestro’ with another

What do you get when you have the world’s greatest driver in a car with the world’s greatest mixologist?

A pretty funny public service video, that is.

As part of a PSA by Bacardi Limited on the perils of drinking and driving, Seven-time F1 world champion Michael Schumacher took Salvatore “The Maestro” Calabrese, widely regarded as the world’s premier bartender, out for a ride on the track in a Maserati to see how Calabrese’s skills as an elite mixer holds up while Schumi loosens the reins on the Maserati.

Of course, the video comes with a few chuckles and curse words from Calabrese but in the end – and despite having his drinks splattered all over his shirt - he somehow manages to whip something up for Formula One’s own ‘Maestro’.

While the video is indeed good for a few laughs, it nevertheless shouldn’t take away from the purpose of the whole PSA – the perils of drinking and driving, and how all of us should avoid it any cost.

Video: Todd Hurley’s dramatic entrance at the Dickies 500

Remember that story we ran a few days ago about Marine Colonel Doug Hurley’s dramatic entrance in a Chinook helicopter before driving out of it with the Chevrolet Camaro pace car?

Well, here’s the video of the former Endeavor space shuttle pilot’s unforgettable entrance at the NASCAR Dickies 500 race at the Texas Motor Speedway.

We have to say, if there’s anything more show-stopping than this, we don’t know what it is.

Video: Mercedes builds 400-meter slot car track in and around the E-Class Estate

In promoting the 2010 Mercedes E-Class Estate’s apparently spacious interior, Mercedes decided to build a 400-meter slot car race track through the E-Class Estate. It must have been a long day in the land of the Silver Arrows.

The track, with all of its 1275 pieces remarkably fitting in the trunk of the E-Class Estate, stretched for a total of 500 square meters with some parts of the layout passing through the interior of the car. The whole ‘project’ took about a day to make and after its completion, the engineers decided to test out their new ‘track’ by racing 1:32 scale DTM-style slot cars around it, with the unofficial lap record clocking in at 4m and 45s.

Check out the video and see what Mercedes does when there’s not a lot of things to do in the office.

Video: Clarkson driving the Audi R8 V10

It’s not every day that you see the host of the BBC’s Top Gear, Jeremy Clarkson, not criticizing a car. Although it is hard to find faults with the new Audi R8 V10, especially when at speed on the racetrack. As Mr. Clarkson points out, there are automobiles that better serve a purpose, like a Land Rover in a field or a Bugatti Veyron at a Concours, but according to one of the biggest car critics in the world, there is no car that is better suited than the new R8 for a lapping session. The Audi’s 5.2 Liter V10 engine comes from the Lamborghini Gallardo and sends a total of 525 HP to all four wheels through the German automaker’s patented Quattro all wheel drive system. The newest Audi super car accelerates the from 0 to 60 MPH in 3.9 seconds while the car’s top speed goes up to 196 MPH.

Video: Volvo’s new ’New Moon’ commercial

With the up-coming launch of the much-ballyhooed second installment of the Twilight saga, ‘New Moon,’ the stars of the film are quickly ramping up promotional and marketing efforts to get people to watch the movie. Now, you might think that when we say ‘stars’, we’d be talking about Robert Pattinson and Kristin Stewart, right?

Not exactly.

In this commercial by Volvo, the Swedish car company – and also the official car for the movie – releases a trailer of sorts to promote the new movie. The only thing different about this one from the other New Moon trailers is that Volvo is promoting the movies’ ‘other stars’, in particular, the Volvo C30 and XC60.

Apparently, Volvo thinks that being associated with pale-skinned vampires would be reason enough for people to come watch the movie.

Video: Spy video of next-generation BMW 5 Series

The next generation BMW 5 Series won’t be revealed until November 23 but that hasn’t stopped a lot of us from speculating as to what the new car would look like.

Thanks to a recent spy video - and minimal camouflaging by BMW – that was taken of the 5 Series taking in a few test laps, we finally have an idea, small as it may be, of what the new 5 Series would look like. As an added bonus, we also get to see all three variants of the 5 Series in the video: the M5, the F10 sedan, and the F11 Touring.

While the video does shed some light on what to expect from the new 5 Series, BMW has nonetheless kept pretty much everything under wraps for its November 23 launch.

For a lot of us that have been waiting anxiously for that day to come, this video is about as close as we can get to seeing the next-gen 5 Series before then. You know what they say, beggars can’t be choosers.

We still have some time before the new McLaren MP4-12C super car goes on sale in the Spring of 2011. Until then the race car fabricators are keeping quite busy with preparation for the Italian exotic competitor, and just to let the world know that they haven’t forgotten about us with all their diligent labor, the automaker has released a video that shows all the work that is going into producing the MP4-12C super car.

The vehicle’s challenging and comprehensive development program has taken the new McLaren to some of the world’s most famous race circuits as well as the most inhospitable of driving environments. McLaren has utilized every method in their arsenal to produce the best budget super car possible; combining simulation programs, Formula 1 techniques, personnel processes and thousands of miles of real world on road exercises showing that the McLaren Automotive testing team has taken giant strides through 2009 and will continue on into the future until they have perfected the MP4-12C.

Say it ain’t so: Bugatti Veyron ends up in the middle of a lagoon

If you suddenly faint, vomit, or have heart palpitations after seeing this video, then we won’t blame you.

That’s a lake right there in the photo and a car that happens to be submerged right smack in the middle. Care to venture a guess as to what car that is?

If you don’t know, then allow us to be the bearer of bad news. That’s a Bugatti Veyron - all $1.6 million dollars of it.

You’re probably wondering how the hell it ended up in the middle of the lake so lt us recount the story for you. The driver of the Veyron was cruising along Galveston, Texas and was talking on his phone when a pelican – of all things! – flew low enough to distract the driver, sending him swerving into the side of the road before his tire hit a mud patch and all the way into the middle of the lagoon.

From what we’ve gathered, the said Veyron is one of only 15 in the entire United States so you can imagine the dismay all of us are feeling right now. If it wasn’t enough that a 1000 horsepower supercar takes a dive into a lagoon, it just had to be a pelican that caused the whole thing. The driver, of course, doesn’t escape blame too. How in God’s green earth can you be so reckless with a car that’s worth more than our entire bank accounts!
