The Suzuki Kizashi will be well represented at SEMA with four unique creations

The Suzuki Kizashi will be well represented at SEMA with four unique creations

The Japanese automaker Suzuki has recently come out with the Kizashi compact sedan, and what better way to show off what the all new four door can be then to bring four highly modified examples to the world’s greatest aftermarket car show SEMA. The new Kizashi should feel right at home amongst a sea of modified Camaros and Challengers, not to mention a few Mustangs among others. Due to the new Suzuki’s affordable entry price, appeal towards the youth market and visually appealing design make the Kizashi the next great candidate to take over tuner duties from the Honda Civic.

The first modified Kiashi will come from engine tuners Road Race Motorsport and will feature a set of Carbontrix custom bumpers as well as an integrated rear diffuser. The body features a blacked out roof while hidden underneath the skin is a full racing suspension and a set of equally as capable high performance brake setup to complete the road racing theme. The second Kizashi scheduled to appear at the Las Vegas Convention Center comes from Delta Tech Engineering, who added a few bolt ons in order to extract a few more horse power. Their creation comes complete with an RK Sport body kit on the outside with a mix of LED and HID lighting while the interior is made up of Katzkin covered seats and a custom Kenwood stereo system.

Westside Auto Group is coming out with a Suzuki Hayabusa inspired model, complete with numerous distinct touches to emphasize the Kizashi’s sporting lineage. The car is covered in a custom two tone paint scheme consisting of Napa Merlot and Bronzed Amber laid on top of the new body kit as well as shaved and smoothed sheet metal. The speed theme continues with a GT Super Car wing and a Yoshimura exhaust while the Westside Kizashi rolls around on a set of R-Worx 7-spoke wheels. Last but not least, Import Tuner will also be at the show with a hot rod Kizashi with a few high performance enhancements under the hood as well as a few cosmetic upgrades to complete Import Tuner’s own editorial visualization of the new four door sport compact.

2010 Suzuki Kizashi

After three distinct concept that came before, the 2010 Suzuki Kizashi made its world debut today. The Kizashi is the Japanese car company’s first premium midsize sedan and will go on sale in North America this winter, where it will compete with other import models like the Mazda6.

As expeced the Suzuki’s design is inspired by the three concept vehicles with its bold and aggressive appearance that is accentuated by the 18 inch alloy wheels and integrated dual sport exhaust. For the interior, Suzuki fitted a set of sport seats as standard equipment, an elegantly illuminated instrument panel, leather wrapped surfaces as well as iPod connectivity and optional streaming audio via Bluetooth.

Under the hood, Suzuki placed a 2.4 Liter DOHC inline four cylinder engine as standard equipment that is mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or optional continuously variable transmission. The fun to drive Korean automaker is also working on a few other possible power train combinations that will be offered sometime in the future.

Suzuki Kizashi concept is sent to the scrap heap

Suzuki Kizashi concept is sent to the scrap heap

Concept cars are supposed to be premium examples of what a car brands future would look like so you’d probably expect that these manufacturers woulsd treat them with a little more respect. With Suzuki, that apparently is not the case.

The Japanese brand that gave us the ultra-chic Suzuki Kizashi has relegated their beloved concept vehicles to the scrap heap. And that’s not a figurative expression for anything; we’re talking about a real dump site comprised mostly of wrecked pieces of twisted metal.

While the location of the said lot remains a mystery, images of those concept Kizashis stacked one on top of the other has us cringing and shaking our heads. What a waste, right?

We figured that if Suzuki went through great lengths to have the car showcased, they could have at least given it a proper send-off, not throw it to the proverbial chopping block that is an incinerator.

Maybe that’s just how Suzuki rolls.

Suzuki Kizashi: I’m not dead yet!

Suzuki Kizashi: I'm not dead yet!

Turns out Suzuki was just doing a Monty Python impression with the Kizashi sedan. Yesterday we reported that the car had been killed off, but instead the Kizashi is saying, “See you in New York, suckers!”

In an interview today with the Automotive News, Jeff Holland, spokesman for American Suzuki Motor Corp., confirmed the Kizashi. "The production version will debut at this year’s New York auto show in April."

While everyday sedans are usually not TopSpeed material, the Kizashi just has a cool and aggressive look that is refreshingly sporty for a segment that sometimes does duty as company cars. A 3.5-liter V6 engine wouldn’t hurt either.

In more good news it seems the Kizashi isn’t the only new Suzuki scheduled for the 2010 model year. The company may be poised for a good comeback in the U.S. as the Swift hatchback will also be arriving on these shores. While the small Swift may not seem like an exciting car at first glance, it provides a lot of cheap fun.

Suzuki Kizashi DOA

One of the cars we were looking forward to crowding the mid-manger parking lot was the Suzuki Kizashi. The designs we’ve seen were a fresh and aggressive approach to the family sedan, and a rumored 3.5-liter V6 was also helped wet our appetites. But that seems to be all over now. A Reuters report is now indicating that Suzuki will halt all investment on the car, despite the almost production-ready versions we’ve spied.

Suzuki has been making a significant comeback in Europe with its Swift hatchback. But the Swift has stayed off our shores due to a mixture of American’s little love for small hatches, and the last Swift we had was also sold as the image-crushing Geo Metro. Instead, the Kizashi was supposed to be Suzuki’s chance at real credibility in America. Now all we’re left with is wondering what the word “Vitara” means.

Suzuki Kizashi - new spy shot

Suzuki Kizashi - new spy shot

This is the most exciting car to come from Suzuki in a while. The Kizashi is an attractive sedan that we have high hopes will be a part of the carmaker’s U.S. lineup. From this spy shot we can see the production version will keep many of the styling cues shown by the recent Kizashi 3 concept car. The production car will likely top out with a 3.5-liter V6 unit, while the rest of the cars will come with four-cylinder engines in both gas and diesel versions (although likely gas only for the U.S.)

Suzuki has close ties with General Motors. GM currently owns only about three percent of the company, but they have many joint production agreements. If the Kizashi is as much of a winner as it looks, GM may want to try and do some of its infamous rebadging to get its hands on a good/cheap sedan. Buick Kizashi anyone?

Suzuki Kizashi drawings

Suzuki Kizashi drawings

We first had three different concepts, then heavily camouflaged spy shots and now this latest drawing give us a pretty good idea of how the 2010 KIzashi will look like (just pretend its a coloring book).

The Kizashi will be built in three different body versions: a wagon, crossover and sedan. The last one, showed in the drawings was previewed by the Kizashi 3 Concept unveiled at the New York Auto Show.

The base version will be powered by a 2.5-liter 150-horsepower four-cylinder engine, but there will also be a 3.6-liter 300-horsepower DOHC V-6 version. A 2.0-liter turbodiesel will be available in many markets.

The 2010 Kizashi will be priced from around $21,000 and should finally provide Suzuki with an appealing mid-sized world car.

Suzuki’s new Kizashi was caught testing in the California Desert. First unveiled as a concept at the 2008 New York Auto Show, the Kizashi is now preparing to enter production.

The base version will be powered by a 2.5-liter 150-horsepower four-cylinder engine, but there will also be a 3.6-liter 300-horsepower DOHC V-6 version. A 2.0-liter turbodiesel will be available in many markets, expect USA.

The car will be about 183 inches long, slightly shorter than a Camry at 189 inches, but riding on a longer wheelbase for more interior volume. As Suzuki has had a long tradition offering station wagons as well as all-wheel drive, expect a sedan, a sport wagon, and a true crossover to round out the line up.
