Hyundai unveiled at the New York Auto Show the 2010 Genesis Coupe, a purpose-built rear-wheel drive sport coupe featuring two performance-focused engines – a 212-hp, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a range-topping all-aluminum, 306-hp, DOHC 3.8-liter V6 engine. Genesis Coupe is scheduled to join the Hyundai lineup in the spring of 2009.

2010 Genesis Coupe was shown as a concept at the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show and its transformation from concept to production reveals that its signature design features have emerged intact.

Genesis Coupe is lighter than the Infiniti G37, and its chassis is also 24 percent stiffer in bending rigidity than the BMW E46 M3. Rear-wheel drive provides a 55:45 front/rear weight distribution.

Two engines infuse Genesis Coupe with performance. The 3.8-liter Lambda DOHC V6 engine delivers an estimated 306 hp and 263 lb.-ft. of torque on regular unleaded. This engine will launch the Genesis Coupe from 0 to 60 miles per hour in under 6 seconds.

The turbocharged, intercooled 2.0-liter DOHC inline four-cylinder benefits from CVVT on both the intake and exhaust camshafts. The 2.0-liter turbo generates an estimated 212 hp and 217 lb.-ft. of torque. It also features a cast-aluminum cylinder block and cylinder head. Both engines feature a free flowing dual cat-back exhaust and an available limited slip differential to put the power to the ground.

2010 Hyundai Accent

Hyundai Accent

Hyundai revealed today the 2010 Accent, a model that comes with lower friction engine components, aerodynamic improvements, lower-rolling-resistance silica tires, a “smart” alternator management system and other enhancements all aimed at reducing fuel consumption.

The GLS version will be destinguished by a chrome-accented grille combine with bold tail lights and strong character lines to deliver a standout presence. Up front, the Blue, GS and SE feature an aggressive bodycolor grille with fog lights standard on the SE. Accent SE’s high-performance P205/45R16 tires and lightweight five-spoke 16-inch aluminum wheels provide a big dose of street credibility. A long wheelbase and higher seating position increase the spacious feeling of the interior. A rear spoiler and rear defroster are standard on all Accent three-door models with the GS and SE adding a standard rear wiper.

The Accent is powered by a 1.6-liter DOHC in-line four cylinder engine that delivers 110 hp at 6,000 rpm and torque is 106 lb.-ft. at 4,500 rpm. With a manual transmission, the Accent Blue’s EPA mileage is 27 mpg City and 36 mpg Highway. With the optional four-speed automatic transmission, the Accent’s 2010 EPA rating is 27 mpg City and 36 mpg Highway besting Versa and Fit on the highway.

GReddy X-Gen Street Genesis Coupe

GReddy X-Gen Street Genesis Coupe

The Korean car builder Hyundai is enjoying unrivaled success with their Genesis Coupe when they introduced a few modified versions of their new sport compact last year at the world’s greatest aftermarket auto show, the Specialty Equipment Market Association convention that takes place every Fall in Las Vegas. While most automakers are pulling out of these kinds of ventures due to the global economic crisis Hyundai is one of the only retailers that is in the black. So in an attempt at following up last year’s trio of SEMA show cars, Hyundai will be well represented this November at the Las Vegas Convention Center with a few new tuner creations.

Hyundai’s latest endeavor is in cooperation with the Japanese high performance aftermarket parts manufacturer GReddy to create the X-Gen Street Genesis Coupe. While Hyundai was in charge of providing a solid foundation, it is the list of items from the Greddy Performance Parts catalog that will make this a true tuner car. The program started with a coupe powered by Hyundai’s 2.0 Liter turbocharged four cylinder engine that in standard trim produces a maximum output of 210 HP and gets 30 MPG has been retooled to make a tire shredding 350 HP and 320 lb-ft of torque.

The exterior of the GReddy Genesis Coupe is made to look a bit more aggressive with an Aero lip spoiler, carbon fiber hood, stylish rear spoiler, light weight Volk Racing G2 wheels wrapped in a set of sticky Toyo high performance rubber. Artists from Hyundai’s North American Design Center in Irvine, California are responsible for the Greddy Genesis Coupe’s unique finish while inside the team has fitted a set of Sparco racing buckets, a modified gauge cluster as well as the all important boost controller to add a little extra pressure into the mix and a turbo timer to ensure that the turbocharger lasts long into the future all controlled by one of Geddy’s remote switching systems in order to eliminate any unnecessary tangles. On a more personal note, this Greddy creation looks a while lot better than last year’s HKS interpretation.

2010 Hyundai Equus Stretch Edition

Get the Flash Player to see the videos.

As other automakers are looking towards smaller more compact models to get through these tough economic times, the Korean car builder is rejoicing their recent success and are rewarding the world with the Hyundai Equus, an even better luxury bargain than last year’s Car of the Year Winning Genesis Sedan. The new to the U.S. Equus is well known as the automaker’s flagship sedan, being powered by a 366 HP V8 that gets as many as 28 MPG. The concept is similar to the Genesis, except the Equus has a bit more space inside.

Adding excess to success, Hyundai has just released the Equus Limousine. Pumping a little more volume into their flagship luxury sedan by stretching it to almost a foot longer than the competition, Hyundai has come up with an affordable, attractive and sensible alternative to their German and Japanese luxury car building cousins. The stretched Equus is distinguishable by its horizontal cross bar grill that is exclusive to Hyundai’s most expensive product. For the first time, the South Korean automaker will power on of their cars with the all new 5.0 Liter Tau V8 that makes as much as 400 HP, making the Equus Limousine more powerful than both the Lexus LS460L and Mercedes S500L.

Rest assured up and coming Korean hip hop super stars, Hyundai is also releasing a bullet proof version of the long wheelbase model. For those who aren’t so fortunate, but still want to ride in spacious luxury and comfort, Hyundai will offer an optional cost reducing 3.8 Liter V6 that will bring prices down closer to the $100,000 mark. Now going down to your Hyundai dealer and handing over a thousand Benjamins might be hard to fathom, but with being able to say that you are riding around in the same vehicle as the President of Korea might be worth it.

2010 Hyundai Sonata

Hyundai Sonata

The Korean automaker Hyundai has just officially unveiled the all new 2010 Sonata in its home market of South Korea, after which the next generation Sonata will follow up with a U.S. market debut at either the upcoming L.A. Auto Show in December, or at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit early next January.

The sixth generation Hyundai Sonata makes use of the automaker’s more fluid design language that has shaped the Hyundai Genesis luxury sedan. The exterior of the new Sonata is made up of a host of complex curves and bold body lines that create character through their refined and harmonized sculpture. The interior of the new Sonata has a very dynamic look that compliments the exterior while refusing to compromise comfort or convenience for the passengers traveling inside. The 2010 Hyundai Sonata is available in nine different exterior colors ranging from Remington Red to Blue Black and even Espresso; a move made in order to appeal to a more diverse younger customer base.

The new Sonata will be powered by a 2.0 Liter Theta II MPi gasoline burning engine cranking out 165 HP and an alternatively fueled LPG variant that generates a maximum output of 144 HP, in either instance the power plants are mated to a new six speed automatic gearbox. 2009 Hyundai Elantra Touring

Hyundai Elantra Touring

We recently received a 2009 Hyundai Elantra Touring into the Top Speed test fleet. Starting at only $17,800 this Vivid Blue beauty is easily one of the most stylish Korean cars we have seen in a while. The Korean design team has hit a home run with the new car’s flowing curves and strong character lines that highlight the Elantra Touring’s broad stance and stretched wheelbase. We love the dual finish 17 inch rims and appreciate that Hyundai equipped our car with a B&M sport shifter to send the 138 HP and 136 lb-ft of torque from the 2.0 Liter DOHC CVVT ultra low emissions four cylinder engine to the front wheels. The Elantra Touring gets as much as 23 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway.

Our car came equipped with the $1,500 Premium Sports Package that not only included those rims we liked so much, but also a large power sunroof and heated seats. The audio system consisted of an AM/FM/XM radio complete with in dash CD player and auxiliary input for MP3 connectivity. Despite the car’s compact footprint, there is tons of storage space inside of the roomy interior; in fact it has the most interior volume of any five door model in its class, 125.5 cubic feet to be exact. The Elantra Touring represents a return to the compact five door segment for Hyundai and offers class leading standard safety technologies like Electronic Stability Control with Traction Control, ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution and Brake Assist as well as the peace of mind that comes from having six standard airbags.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time with the Elantra Touring, not only was it attractive but it was fun to drive as well. If the automaker from the free half of Korea can continue to build cars of this caliber and offer them at the same competitive price points, the rest of the manufacturers around the world will have to take an even closer look at Hyundai as their newest competitors.

2009 Hyundai Nuvis

Hyundai Nuvis

Treat Hyundai’s Nuvis like a 3D hidden image picture. Squint the eyes and look at everything a little out of focus, now you’re looking at the future Hyundai crossover vehicles.

Premiering at the New York Auto Show, the Nuvis shows the styling direction that will be used on future refreshes to vehicles such as the Tucson, Santa Fe and Veracruz.

Just like the Blue-Will concept, the Nuvis is a showcase for Hyundai’s Blue Drive hybrid system. The concept is powered by a 2.4-liter Theta II engine mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission and a 40 hp (205 N-m) electric motor.

Don’t expect to see the Nuvis on the streets anytime soon. While the flowing lines are attractive, the gullwing doors and limited seating for four makes the Nuvis more of a styling exercise than a future production vehicle.

Press release after the jump.
