2011 Volvo S60

Volvo S60

Even if it will not be officially unveiled until March 2010 at the Geneva Motor Show, Volvo revealed today the first images of the 2011 S60 luxury sedan. Production will start in early summer 2010 at the Volvo Cars plant in Ghent, Belgium.

"The all-new Volvo S60 is sculpted to move you. It looks and drives like no other Volvo before and the car’s technology will help you to be safer and more confident behind the wheel," says Stephen Odell, President and CEO of Volvo Cars.

While the exterior design lines are clearly inspired by the concept unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show, the front of the car is... well just not right. But we’ll need to wait and see.

Mini delays Crossover launch until 2010

Mini delays Crossover launch until 2010

At last year’s Paris Motor Show, the English automaker Mini showed the world the Mini Crossover concept that took the cute Cooper and beefed it up with some off road attitude, and everyone expected to see the production version this September at the Frankfurt Motor Show. however Mini has announced that the crossover’s official launch has been delayed until 2010 at the earliest.

That doesn’t mean that the Mini booth will be empty in Frankfurt, the automobile manufacturer will be unveiling the Mini Coupe concept and the Mini Roadster concept at the German auto show, a fitting move considering that their parent company BMW is from the region.

The crossover model, reportedly called Crossman, is almost certain to make an appearance at the Geneva motor show next spring. According to a BMW Mini spokesman, "The Crossover launch has been pushed back as we wish to first explore differentiation within future Mini smaller models and get feedback." Hopefully we don’t face any more financial crisis before then.

New rendering of the Ferrari SUV released; debut set for 2010

New rendering of the Ferrari SUV released; debut set for 2010

Ferrari has long been associated with some of the most luxurious cars ever to be rolled out into the streets. It’s one of those companies that have built a reputation that precedes itself. So when they veer away from what they do best – produce fast and expensive cars – eyebrows are naturally raised.

That seems to be the case when the Prancing Horse is set to debut their very first SUV next year. Historically speaking, the words ‘Ferrari’ and ‘SUV’ are as synonymous as oil and water. But then again, there’s always a first time for everything and people at Scuderia are finally ready to buck the trend and get into the SUV arms-race. While the idea for a Ferrari SUV has floated around in the past, nobody took them seriously until a series of renderings caught the attention of the automotive world. The latest rendition of the proposed Ferrari SUV, which incidentally, was given the codename ‘Ferrari FS 599 Fuoristrada’, looks like any standard SUV - it has four doors, a raised ride height and will most likely come with a 4WD system.

2010 Fiat 500C

Fiat 500C

As promised Fiat offered today a preview of its future 500C set to be revealed in March at the Geneva Motor Show.

The 500C has the same dimensions as the coupe version: 3.55 m x 1.65 m x 1.49 m. It is also powered by the same three engines available in the hardtop: a 1.3-liter 75 hp Multijet turbodiesel, 1.2-liter 69 hp gad unit, or 1.4-liter 100 hp gas engine. The big difference is what Fiat calls, "a fully fledged window to the sky."

The 500C follows in the tradition of the original Fiat 500 and uses a rolling roof design that allows the car to retain the shape of the coupe. Because the car does not lose its B or C pillars, structural rigidity that can easily be lost when turning a car into a convertible should be minimized here. The soft top will be available in three colors (ivory, red and black) and sales should begin in Europe in the spring.

Volvo revealed today the first official images and informations about the all-new 2009 XC60 that will make its world debut in March at the Geneva Motor Show. Sales of the car will start in Europe during the second half of 2008, while sales in North America will get under way in early 2009.

The new XC60 is being launched with a choice of three engines: the turbocharged T6 which produces 285 hp, and two variants of the D5 turbodiesel, producing 185 and 163 hp respectively. All Wheel Drive (AWD) is fitted as standard. In 2009 Volvo will add a new 2.4-litre version powered by a Euro 5 diesel engine producing 163 hp and with a CO2 rating of around 170 g/km.

A variety of intelligent safety systems are another important part of the XC60 model’s special character. The big news is City Safety - a unique feature that can help the driver avoid or reduce the effects of the type of low-speed impacts that are common in city traffic and traffic tailbacks. If the car is about to drive into the vehicle in front and the driver does not react, the car brakes itself.

Both versions will be manufactured at the company’s factory in Martorell, near Barcelona.

2010 Audi TT RS

Get the Flash Player to see the videos.

Audi revealed today at the Geneva Motor Show the most powerful TT version ever: the TT-RS, in both coupe and Roadster versions. Sales of the Audi TT RS begin in March; deliveries are scheduled to begin this summer.

The RS model distinguishes itself from the rest of the TT line with larger front air vents, twin-spoked alloy wheels, a fixed wing at the back and a new rear diffuser.

Under the hood Audi placed a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine with direct gasoline injection that produces 340 bhp and 330 lb.-ft. of torque. The TT RS Coupé makes the 0 to 100 km/h sprint (0 to 62 mph) in 4.6 seconds, and the Roadster needs a tenth of a second longer. Top speed is limited to 250 km/h (155 mph), but Audi offers an option to raise the limit to 280 km/h (174 mph).

2.

The five-cylinder unit marks Audi’s return to the odd numbered engine. This is important for Audi because it’s had a long tradition of five-cylinders in performance cars. It dates back to 1976 when Ferdinand Piëch developed the unit for the 5000 series, that was later used in the rally-dominating Quattro cars of the 80s.
