I.DE.A Institute unveiled the Sofia hybrid sedan at the Geneva Motor Show. The concept has been design to be powered by a hybrid drivetrain ( 8-cylinder engine with front or rear-wheel drive) and its design language its inspired by the female form: its flanks, glance and elegance are emphasized by a glamorous red dress. However the hybrid sedan is pure fantasy with no chances to ever go into production.
According to I.D.E.A, the concept is a concentration of sportiness and elegance. The curves are graceful, the lines smooth and supple, the shape and profile are as enchanting and alluring as a female figure. The front and rear light clusters convey a captivating and inviting look.
Audi unveiled the S-Line package for the new A1 small hatchback at the Geneva Motor Show. And even if it adds no performance upgrades, the S-Line package adds a more dynamic appearance.
The package includes: 17- or 18-inch cast aluminum wheels, S line sport suspension with dynamic suspension tuning, leather-wrapped sport steering wheel and sport seats. At the exterior the A1 S-Line gets revised front bumper, a larger roof-mounted spoiler and a rear diffuser.
Also, if so desired, components such as the seat covers, the air nozzle housings and the inlays in the doors can be painted in fresh, expressive colors.
Gumpert unveiled the new 2010 Apollo Sport supercar today at the Geneva Motor Show. The new supercar will be offered in two versions: black and white. The Apollo Sport is powered by a 750 hp engine (an increase of 50 hp over the previous version) mated to a 6-speed sequential transmission that can now shift in a mere 40 milliseconds, with faster gear changes thanks to rocker switches on the steering wheel.
The 2010 Apollo Sports gets a new designed front and tail, LED daytime running lights, a completely re-designed flap-controlled exhaust system and flaps in the tail area.
Aston Martin unveiled the special edition DBS UB-2010 at the Geneva Motor Show. This limited edition was built to commemorate Dr. Ulrich Bez’s 10th year as Chief Executive of the company. The DBS UB-2010 will be limited to only 40 units, 20 Coupes and 20 Volantes.
Each DBS UB-2010 has been specified personally by Dr. Bez and features a unique ‘Azurite Black’ paint finish, a metallic bronze leather with woven leather seat inserts and a ‘Cryptic Titan’ facia finish. Each car will bare ‘UB-2010’ sill plaques signed by Dr. Bez together with a final inspection plate after Dr. Bez has signed-off each of the 40 cars personally.
Porsche unveiled the Porsche 918 Spyder concept car at the Geneva Motor Show. It is a mid-engined two-seater that combines the performance of a super-sports car with the CO2 emissions of a small compact.
The 918 Spyder is powered by a V8 engine delivering more than 500 hp and three electric motors with overall output of 218hp. The engine emits just 70 grams CO2 per kilometer and has a fuel consumption of just 3.0 liters/100 kilometers (94 mpg imp). Despite this the car’s performances are impressive: the sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just under 3.2 seconds, top speed of 198 mph, and a lap time on the Nordschleife of Nürburgring in less than 7:30 minutes, faster than even the Porsche Carrera GT.
The 918 Spyder is inspired by legendary racing cars such as the Porsche 917 Le Mans and the current Porsche RS Spyder. The exterior design is defined by striking rear hoods extending out of the headrests and retractable air intakes with a ram air function. The interior gets sports bucket seats, a touch-sensitive surface for intuitive control of the car’s functions and three-spoke multifunction sports steering wheel.

It seems like it’s been forever since we found out that Aston Martin was releasing the re-badged version of the Toyota iQ, which they began calling the Cygnet. The wait was longer than what we expected, but finally, Aston martin has lifted the covers off of the Cygnet at the Geneva Motor Show.
According to Aston Martin, the "Cygnet concept represents a creative, environmentally conscious solution, being small, yet with presence – and highly fuel efficient, now combined with the prestige of Aston Martin’s luxury brand ownership."
The Aston Martin Cygnet will be powered by a 1.3 liter engine delivering a total of 97-hp with a top speed of 105 mph.
Like what we said: the Cygnet is, effectively, an iQ for the elite; and by elite, we don’t mean just any other rich person that has money to burn. Limited to only 2000 units, the Cygnet is only available to people who currently have an Aston Martin parked in their garage so even if, say, you’re a millionaire who puts cash on your dining table as a centerpiece, you’re out of luck. Unless you own an Aston Martin, you can’t get your hands on a Cygnet.
It’s been a while since we last saw MINI pull off something like this but it seems that they’ve finally gone back to their guerilla advertising ways by taking over the Geneva Motor Show, ‘MINIWOOD’ style.
To celebrate the world debut of the MINI Countryman – or as MINI has come to describe as their ‘new star’ – the BMW-owned brand launched a guerilla campaign that involved multi-dimensional projection of “MINIWOOD” onto a nearby mountain that just so happens to face the city of Geneva.
It, of course, is a direct reference to Hollywood – or the City of Stars – and MINI was able to accomplish it by cutting off the words ‘MINI’ and ‘WOOD’ on two circular pieces of wood and, by using the spruced up headlights of the Countryman, they were able to cast a lighted projection of MINIWOOD similar to the way Commissioner Gordon did with the Bat Signal.
It’s pretty ingenious, even by the lofty standards of MINI.
The Japanese automaker Toyota has revealed the refreshed RAV4 compact crossover at the Geneva Motor Show. The facelift version of the Toyota RAV4 receives not only a new front end, but also a few interior upgrades as well as improved power train options. The exterior gets a new set of headlights on either side of the new front grill, a new hood and a redesigned front bumper complete with integrated fog lights.
The 2010 RAV4 will be offered in 2WD and 4WD variants, with a choice of three diesel engines: a petrol and two diesel. The 2.0 litre Valvematic petrol engine delivers a total of 158 hp at 6200 rpm and 198 Nm of torque at 4400 rpm. The 2.2 litre D-4D 150 diesel engine delivers 150 hp at 3600 rpm and 340 Nm of torque at 2000-2800 rpm. And finally the 2.2 litre D-4D 180 diesel engine delivers a total of 177 hp at 3600 rpm and 400Nm of torque at 2000-2800 rpm. All versions are equipped with Toyota Optimal Drive technologies that help to lower emissions and fuel consumption.
As promised, Justin Timberlake was on-hand for the launch of the 2011 Audi A1. While the car was received pretty warmly by the gathered audience, it sure looked like Timberlake stole the show by just, well, showing up.
Audi head honcho Rupert Stadler welcomed Timberlake on-stage and proudly introduced the brand’s new global ambassador, much to the delight of the shrieking - did we say shrieking; we meant applauding – crowd.
We kind of thought that Timberlake would have a more hands-on involvement during the entire proceedings but apart from some trivial banter with Stadler and the cursory plug for the new A1 – “it’s cool, environmentally-friendly, and perfectly suited for my crazy urban lifestyle,” Timberlake said – the pop star was surprisingly toned down during the event.
Then again, that didn’t stop the crowd from bum rushing him as soon as he got off the stage.
