Ferrari’s quest for global (retail) domination is getting stronger and stronger by the day after the Pranching Horse recently conquered yet another country. And while they should never be confused as Starbucks, Ferrari’s ever-growing retail shopping chains does look like its expanding faster than that Green Mermaid.
The latest country to open an official Ferrari store is Athens, Greece, joining a laundry list of high-profile cities all over the world that have also recently been introduced to the Scuderia, including Milan, Venice, Rome, London, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Miami, Barcelona, Macau, the mega store in Dubai, and the highly-anticipated Ferrari World Theme Park in Abu Dhabi.
And if you think they’re done, guess again. The global expansion of the Ferrari Store, at least according to some sources within the company, is far from over. The car brand is still looking at the potential of other cities in Europe, North America, and Asia to have their own official retail store with Ferrari setting aside a target of opening around 50 stores in the coming years.
As one of the most recognizable brands anywhere in the world, the appeal of a Ferrari store near your block should not go understated. Now, if only their price tags were a little bit on the wallet-friendly side, then that would make the whole thrill of going inside a store much more worth it.
The Finns may not be the most amiable people in the world, but few nationalities can come close to the level of success Finns have had in motorsports.
From Formula One champions to highly-successful youth karting and motorcycle programs, Finland has produced arguably the most talented and successful crop of racers over the years. One sport that has seen a lot of immensely talented and successful Finns is rally racing, with notable former champions like Tommi Makinen and Juha Jankkunen only two of the many Finnish rally car drivers that have made an impact on the sport.
It’s safe to say that it takes a certain level of guts and dedication to become a successful rally car driver and the Finns, for the most part, have both these qualities in abundance. Check out this video compilation of some of the most insane rally crashes that have happened in Finland alone. Don’t be surprised by the things you see in the video because for those crazy Finns, rally crashes are as much a part of their culture as high-tech mobile phones.
At some point, our threshold for seeing exotic car crashes is going to be snapped. But until that time, we just have to stomach them and move on. The latest victim of the lethal mix of bad driving and bad weather is an Aston Martin DB9. In this video shot in Warsaw, Poland, the DB9 was speeding along a wet road when it loses control before slamming into a tree, breaking it in half in the process.
The DB9 then spins a couple of times before resting to a stop with the fallen tree just a few feet away from the car. Imagine what would have happened if the impact of the crash forced the DB9 to stop and the tree falling on top of it. Despite the damage done to his ride, the driver was enormously lucky not to have been crushed under a tree trunk.
The holidays are on the way and as you can expect, the sweet treats are coming in abundance. One car manufacturer that takes the ‘sweetness’ factor to a new level is Porsche.
One Porsche dealership in the Netherlands has a brand new 911 Carrera S on display. The only thing is, this car is covered in milk chocolate. Sweet ride, don’t you think?
As you can expect, the car is not for sale and is only there for exhibit purposes. Nevertheless, the chef in-charge of covering the Carrera S in chocolate used about 175 kilos of the sweet treat – they also covered the Carrera S in plastic before dipping the chocolate - which is about enough chocolate to satisfy our sweet tooth cravings for more than one lifetime. In addition to that, the chef also used a few pounds of white chocolate to design the lights and fine trims of the 911 Carrera S.
Since the car will be on display until the end of the year, the dealership has, in effect, set a standard temperature of 27 degrees Celsius at all times, to ensure that the chocolate doesn’t melt.
So if you’re in Netherlands at any point this year, be sure to head out to the Porsche Centrum Gelderland to catch a glimpse of the chocolate Carrera S.
We’ve all had our fair share of exotic crashes over the years and despite the stomach-churning sight of seeing these prized beauties burn, get mowed down, or get smashed into smithereens, we still can’t get enough.
In the video, two Ferrari Californias are whooping it up in the streets of Sofia, power sliding and showing off their muscles to anyone willing to take a glance. But after too much showboating, one of the cars overdoes his drift and catches an oncoming car side-on. The California bounces off the car and hits a bulldozer seconds later.
Needless to say, the lesson is very important in this crash. If you’re going to show-off your wheels, it’s always a good idea to still bear some semblance of caution. Otherwise, this is how your showboating is going to end up.
It seems like the world of one off super cars has just received a new member hoping for a production vehicle future. We have already seen the Spanish Spano GTA and the latest true American super car, the Devon Motorworks GTX->http://www.topspeed.com/cars/devon-motorworks/index668.html]. However this new Turkish speed machine does away with the three letter moniker and instead caries the nickname of its creator’s late offspring, much like Enzo Ferrari did with the Dino. The Onuk Sazan is in every aspect a bona fide super car, the body is made from intricately worked composite materials, each pony only has to lug around about four pounds and the asking price is a cool €200,000.
Dr. Onuk is better known for creating some of the world’s most impressive water craft, the Sazan is an homage to the Doctor’s son, Kaan who lost his life in a tragic car accident back in 1996. Sazan, as he was known by his fellow classmates, thus became the only name that Onuk could consider for his latest creation. At the moment the prototype version of the Sazan is powered by a Chevrolet Corvette Z06 sourced LS7 V8 engine that has been slightly tweaked to deliver a maximum output of 512 HP. When the new Turkish super car does indeed go into production, you can expect to see a turbocharged version of Nissan’s award winning VQ series V6 engine under the deck lid tuned to put down around 485 HP to the rear wheels. Although we don’t often hear of automobiles coming from this Eurasian region, make no mistake and don’t discount the Onuk Sazan as a world class super car.
If a contest were to be held featuring the world’s most peculiarly-named supercar, the Bewerp Savage Rivale Roadyacht GTS figures to be one of the odds-on favorites. After all, you don’t come across a lot of cars that are called ‘Roadyachts’ these days.
Eccentric names nothwisthanding, the Dutch supercar is a real looker in all aspects. Not only is it four-door, 600 horsepower monster, it actually has a pretty appealing aesthetic look, which helps a great deal considering that you’d need to do a pretty large amount of convincing on someone to purchase a $385,000 supercar on a car that’s not only horribly named, but looks down right hideous to boot.
Fortunately, the Bewerp Savage Rivale Roadyacht GTS is neither of those things (the name’s weird, but we’ve definitely heard worse).
Add that to this recent video of the Dutch supercar showing off its monstrous roar – albeit in a sidewalk – and Bewerp’s crown jewel looks – and sounds – more and more eye-catching by the day.
A series of BMWs recently took to the Salzburgring racetrack in Austria to run a few laps in the circuit. Now, normally this wouldn’t come off as groundbreaking news but these Beamers are not your ordinary BMWs; they all come from the prestigious M lineage of BMWs.
Running down the list of those present, it looks like the M fleet was well-accounted for, including the new X6 M, the M3, the M5, and even the M3 GT4.
Now, we can all sit on our chairs and daydream about the day when we can call ourselves ‘owners’ of one of these mouth-watering vehicles, or we can sit back and enjoy the video. It’s your call,
One of Germany’s premier motoring magazines, Autobild, recently took Porsche’s latest 911 Turbo model to Estoril circuit in Portugal for a little fun on the track. Although we didn’t understand much of the German commentary, the new boosted 911 is synonymous with the words performance and beauty in any language. Besides, anytime you can get the legendary racing driver Walter Rohl behind the wheel good things are bound to happen, especially when you consider the 3.8 Liter flat six complete with a pair of Variable Turbine Geometry snails that is capable of producing a maximum output of 500 HP and a peak torque of 516 lb-ft that allows the rear engine super car to accelerate from 0 to 60 MPH in only 3.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 194 MPH.
As far as matters that aren’t related to cars, when it comes to Top Gear’s Stig, it’s best to take anything he does with a grain of salt.
According to Top Gear, the popular British car show where the Stig is one of the mainstays, the white-jumpsuit-and-helmet-wearing mystery man was ‘SENSATIOALLY ARRESTED by a FRIENDLY POLICEMAN following an ALLEGED INCIDENT of some kind’.
Yes, those were the exact words from Top Gear. It doesn’t really strike you as completely sincere, does it?
According to the story, the Garda – the Irish police, if you’re keeping track – pulled over the Stig for what appeared to be a minor traffic infraction. While no details were unveiled at the time of the ‘arrest’, one eye-witness said: I didn’t see what happened exactly but it was probably really bad. Maybe he punched a swan or tried to push one of the Hairy Bikers into the river. Again."
Again, we find nothing about this story that sounds remotely like what would happen if in fact the Stig gets caught driving with his pants down. Top Gear’s been known for laying out some wicked pranks in the past, so don’t be surprised if this is just one of them.
