The new Iron Man 2 trailer – yes, that movie with lots of super-duper fast cars in it – has been released and as expected, Tony Stark has absolutely no shortage of exotic vehicular toys at his disposal. And we’re not even counting that whole Iron Man robotic suit – he now has four! - he keeps with him all the time.
Let’s see: there’s a scene at the Circuit de Monaco, a slightly different Formula-something race with Tony Stark behind the wheel of one of the race cars, and a clear-as-day shot of the new Audi R8 Spyder. And oh, there’s lots and lots of Scarlett Johansson, too.
That movie is shaping up to be a must-watch for every man on this Earth and as car enthusiasts who also happen to like hot chicks in tight Spandex will be there falling in line for the first screening.
If you haven’t seen the new trailer, here it is. Guaranteed; you’re going to love it.
As promised, Justin Timberlake was on-hand for the launch of the 2011 Audi A1. While the car was received pretty warmly by the gathered audience, it sure looked like Timberlake stole the show by just, well, showing up.
Audi head honcho Rupert Stadler welcomed Timberlake on-stage and proudly introduced the brand’s new global ambassador, much to the delight of the shrieking - did we say shrieking; we meant applauding – crowd.
We kind of thought that Timberlake would have a more hands-on involvement during the entire proceedings but apart from some trivial banter with Stadler and the cursory plug for the new A1 – “it’s cool, environmentally-friendly, and perfectly suited for my crazy urban lifestyle,” Timberlake said – the pop star was surprisingly toned down during the event.
Then again, that didn’t stop the crowd from bum rushing him as soon as he got off the stage.
Reports are now coming in that Naomi Campbell is wanted by the NYPD for questioning regarding an incident with her driver as they were driving through New York City. This, apparently, all stems from allegations made by the driver that Campbell struck him so hard that his face slammed against the steering of the Cadillac Escalade he was driving the supermodel in.
The driver then stopped the car and reported the incident to a traffic enforcer, at which point Campbell had already left the Escalade on foot.
More than any other Marvel movie franchise that we’ve seen recently, Iron Man has not only given us some pretty good entertainment, but it’s also featured some pretty snazzy supercars to go along with billionaire/superhero Tony Stark’s penchant for fast rides.
The soon-to-be released Iron Man 2 is no different and, if you ask us, it’s taken the whole Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous angle up a notch. Not only do we get to see the movie debut of the Audi R8 Spyder – it’s hard-top brother made a similar appearance during the first Iron Man movie – but as these photos show us, the producers even had the cajones to do an explosion scene at the – of all places! – world-famous Circuit de Monaco. You can watch the video at MSN France.
And oh yeah, a Rolls Royce Phantom even makes a cameo on-track, which makes us wonder if that exotic piece of beauty is bound for the scrap heap too.
Make no mistake, we like a lot of the movies Marvel has released recently, but neither Spiderman nor the Incredible Hulk can fit luxury cars, supercars, and exploding race cars at the Circuit de Monaco in their storylines like iron Man can.
When it comes to cars, Jay Leno is a man of many tastes. Whether it’s an old-school Ford Model T or a somewhat up-to-date Bugatti Veyron, the comedian knows his cars and as long as it’s either rare or expensive or a combination of both, it’s going to find its way into his garage.
In the latest episode of ‘Jay Leno’s Garage’, Leno gets his hands on a DeLorean. No, it’s not that DeLorean that can travel in time at the strike of midnight, but rather a brand-new one that still takes the shape and form of the Back to the Future version.
This particular DeLorean that Jay has is an original one that has come with some pretty extensive modifications to at least become somewhat in line with the standards of today. It’s 2.8-liter Renault V6 even comes with an optional engine upgrade that can spike up its pony power to as much as 195 hp.
So as you can expect with just about every car that gets into an episode
of ‘Jay Leno’s Garage’, he gets behind the wheel of the car and takes it for a spin. And despite not having adequate power to suit his taste buds, Leno seems to have a fairly good time bringing the car Leno describes as one of the ’most controversial cars in history’ up to speed with today’s roads.
In an attempt to offer a little help for the Haiti, Naomi Campbell joined forces with Lotus Car and created the special edition Evora "Naomi for Haiti" Edition. There will only be eight units produced and each of them will be put on auction, with all the proceeds directly going to relief efforts in the devastated country of Haiti.
This special edition is distinguished by a dynamic color scheme that is highlighted by cultural influences of Haiti, most notable of which is the Haitian flag emblazoned on the two doors with the words “Naomi for Haiti” accompanying it.
The auction will take place between 19 to 28 February during the London Fashion Week. The first unit was already sold for an impressive $500.000. The car two and three were also sold for an impressive $647,000.
Charlie Sheen woke up this morning with a Mercedes missing from his garage, but to his good fortune, he wasn’t around to see what became of his luxury ride.
The actor’s Mercedes was stolen at his home in Sherman Oaks, California, but the thief, apparently, had something different in store for his newly-boosted car, flying it over a cliff along Mulholland Drive, you know, for kicks.
To his surprise, Sheen was woken up by a call from Mercedes telling him that his car was involved in an accident. Amazingly, the perpetrator escaped from the scene before the LAPD showed up, which is now in hot pursuit of the thief.
It’s unclear to us just how Charlie Sheen could’ve jut left the keys of his Mercedes inside the car, making it a relatively easy target for the unknown booster. Then again, Sheen can afford to buy a replacement with just a snap of a finger so we suspect that he won’t lose a ton of sleep over it.
Just a reminder to Mr. Sheen, though. Next time, bring your keys inside your house.
Even if you’re not a fan of its mundanely shallow story line, if you call yourself a car enthusiast, then you should be excited about the announcement that the Fast and the Furious franchise is getting a fifth – and possibly, sixth – installment.
The fifth Fast and the Furious – the title has been penciled in to be simply called as ‘Fast 5’ - movie will once again be co-billed by Vin Diesel and Paul Walker. Likewise director Justin Lin, the man behind the camera for ‘The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift’ and ‘Fast and Furious’ (a.k.a ‘The Fast and the Furious 4’) will also return to direct the fifth installment of a franchise that has become a surprising cash cow for NBC Universal.
There’s no word yet on whether Vin Diesel and Paul Walker will be joined by their old cast-mates, but wouldn’t it be a treat to see Tyrese and Bow Wow get into a drag race for their pink slips?
When it comes to Jay Leno and cars, we’ve come to expect just about anything. The comedian’s longstanding reputation as one of the world’s foremost car enthusiasts has pretty much been street knowledge for all of us.
So when Charles Morgan decided to drop by Jay Leno’s garage to show him his latest special-edition sports car, the Morgan Aero SuperSports, you could say that we weren’t totally surprised.
The new sports car, which was build in time for Morgan’s 100th year anniversary, comes with a 380-horespower version of BMW’s 4.8-liter V8, which, for a car that weighs just a step over a ton, is by all accounts, ridiculously fast.
And as someone who knows a thing or two about Morgan vehicles – he has, after all, a 1932 Morgan Three-Wheeler tucked in his garage – Leno didn’t waste time in getting behind the wheel of the Aero SuperSports and taking it for a leisurely spin out on Burbank.
Infusing both old-school design with new school technology, Morgan seems to have found a fan in Leno who was utterly impressed with the pace of the Aero SuperSports that it wouldn’t surprise us if we find one of these models find its way to his garage permanently.
Ever since Sylvester Stallone became America’s favourite underdog as Rocky, his movie credentials have taken quite a substantial dip with “blockbusters” like Get Carter, Daylight, and The Specialist counting on Sly’s resume.
Needless to say, Stallone’s taste for scripts leaves a lot to be desired but despite his monotonous, one-expression acting skills, we do have to give Sly credit for having good taste in cars.
These photos show Stallone with fellow action-man Jason Statham observing Rocky’s new ride, a special-edition super-charged Hendrick 25th Anniversary Camaro. Unlike other celebrities who prefer to keep their special edition cars tucked snugly in their garages, Stallone seems to take great pleasure in showing of his new digs, driving it in and around town for the whole world to drool at.
