BMW 7-Series M-Sport by EAS

BMW 7-Series M-Sport by EAS

Even if the demand is present, the German automaker BMW has decided to leave the job of tuning their luxury limousine up to Alpina and discarded the idea of a high performance M7, however they have decided to offer new car buyers a more aggressive looking 7 Series with an optional aero upgrade package. Unfortunately for some, their sales slips were signed before the automaker made the M Sport package available, but have no fear because European Auto Source has come to the rescue with their own version of the 7 Series’ Motor sport appearance package.

Similar to the OEM pieces, ESA’s kit includes an M Sport style front bumper with larger air intakes and matte black trim along the edges. However the genuine article’s stretched out horizontal chrome strips that sit at the edges of the big mouth front bumper are sold separately. But out back the EAS unit is almost identical to the one that comes from Germany. And while European Auto Source’s rolling stock are not quite the same as the split five spoke rims that come fitted to the 7 Series M Sport, these 21 inch alloy wheels finished in matte black with their classic mesh design do the trick.

Saudi Arabia purchases 132 BMW 740i and 740Li vehicles

Saudi Arabia purchases 132 BMW 740i and 740Li vehicles

If there’s one thing the global economic crisis has shown us, its knowing which countries have become the have’s and have-not’s in the auto industry.

One such country that falls in the former category is Saudi Arabia, which recently purchased a staggering 132 BMW 740i and 740Li models, which incidentally are the short wheelbase variant and the long wheelbase variant, respectively, of the BMW 740.

The purchase, which was made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, was made to serve as the official vehicles used by Saudi Arabia embassies across the world.

The official handover was made at the BMW Welt in Munich, Germany, and was attended by a number of luminaries from Saudi Ariabia led by His Excellency Professor Ossama Abdulmajed Al Shobokshi, Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Germany. Likewise, leading the BMW contingent was Ian Robertson, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Sales and Marketing.

The German automaker BMW has officially unveiled the new ActiveHybrid 7, the first car in the world to combine a V8 gasoline engine, eight-speed automatic transmission and an electric motor as a mild hybrid concept.

The V8 engine delivers 449 HP between 5,500 and 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 479 lb-ft consistently all the way from 2,000 to 4,500 rpm. The ActiveHybrid 7 accelerates from 0 to 60 MPH in just 4.9 seconds, and can hit a top speed of 155 MPH.

The V8 engine is combined to a three-phase synchronous electric motor positioned between the combustion engine and the automatic transmission converter. The electric motor generates additional drive power of 20 HP, with maximum power increasing to an even more substantial 27 HP in the generator mode charging the lithium-ion battery. In the driving mode BMW ActiveHybrid 7 benefits from maximum output of 465 HP and peak torque of 516 lb-ft.

Other green technologies included in the new ActiveHybrid 7: Brake Energy Regeneration, two interconnected on-board power networks, and a 400 watt-hour 35 cell lithium-ion battery which weighs 59.5 lb and measures 14.6 x 8.7 x 9.1 inches.

BMW 7 Series High Security

BMW 7 Series High Security

The German automaker BMW has just launched the High Security version of the new 7-Series reserved for high-risk celebrities and the Pope. The security version is built from either a 760Li or 750Li luxury limousine to meet the strict regulations of the new ballistic protection level VR7.

Even though the High Security version wears quite a bit of extra armor that doesn’t mean that it can be a slouch, the BMW 760Li High Security can accelerate from 0 to 60 MPH in just 6.2 seconds and the 4.4 Liter V8 from the 750Li based version happens to be the first gas burning engine of its kind with turbochargers located in between the cylinder banks, shortening the lengths of all the necessary plumbing and creating a much more efficient design. The innovative eight cylinder cranks out a maximum output of 407 HP and a peak of 442 lb-ft of torque straight to the rear wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission which allows the BMW 750Li High Security to go from 0 to 60 MPH in a slightly slower 7.9 seconds.

The High Security models also come with a host of safety systems aimed at protecting the occupants inside. These improvements include chassis reinforcements, reinforced amour plating for the body panels and advanced "safety glazing" on the glass. The undercarriage has been reinforced and the doorjambs sealing in order to prevent life-threatening objects like bullets and shrapnel from entering the cabin. There is also a high tech intercom system, assault alarm, fire extinguisher and an internal air supply in case of a lethal gas attack.

BMW 760 Li pricing announced

BMW 760 Li pricing announced

$136,660. Apparently, that’s what’s going to cost you for a brand-new BMW 760Li. That may be a steep price for a car these days especially since the economic crisis has made penny-pinching a top priority for most American consumers. But then again, the BMW 760Li is not like most cars. It is, after all, a BMW.

The new 760Li, which is now available to order at US dealerships, is poised to more than exceed the generous hype it has been getting in the previous months. It comes with an all-new 6.0-liter V12 all-aluminum engine with Twin Turbo Technology and a High Precision Injection, which injects fuel straight into the combustion chambers.

In addition to that, the 760Li’s engine isn’t a slouch by any stretch of the imagination. Underneath the hood of this luxury vehicle is an engine that can produce 535 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque and a 0-60 mph time of 4.5 seconds.

2010 BMW 760i and 760Li

Get the Flash Player to see the videos.

The German automaker BMW has just added two new models to the 7-Series line-up: the all-new 760i and stretched wheelbase 760Li. Both versions will be powered by a direct injected TwinPower Turbo V12 that displaces a huge 6.0 Liters and produces 544 HP and 553 lb-ft of torque. Handling all that newfound power will be a brand new eight-speed automatic transmission.

Both the new BMW 760i and the new BMW 760Li will come standard with creature comforts like Dynamic Damping Control as part of the Dynamic Drive Control system that is operated by a button on the centre console. The new luxury limousine will also feature speed-related Servotronic steering assistance to make things easier for the driver as well as anti-roll stability control as part of the Dynamic Drive system. The longer BMW 760Li comes with even more high tech gadgets like air suspension with a self-leveling rear axle. Last but not least, both models are available as an option with Integral Active Steering featuring speed-related adjustment of the steering angle on the rear wheels.

On the outside, the new 7 will ride on a set of light weight 19 inch alloy wheels and in order to distinguish itself as the top of the line V12 powered model, the stretched Bimmer will feature a few chrome-plated elements like the grill, tailpipes and chrome bar that ties the taillights together.

BMW 740d M Sport - first official images

BMW 740d M Sport - first official images

Despite our strongest wishes, the German luxury automaker BMW will not be offering a factory tuned high-performance M badged version of their full sized limousine, the 7 Series, but a M Sport version isn’t so bad either. It was only two weeks ago that Top Speed brought you a few spy shots of the very car we are talking about now in testing, today it is time to see the first official images from the manufacturer.

The M Sport package features exterior highlights like a revised front bumper, a new rear bumper with integrated exhaust system and on the inside with a sports steering wheel adorned with the very exclusive M badge.

Stay tuned, we’ll be back shortly with more details.

BMW prepares 7-Series M-sport package

A few days ago, Top Speed reported that the German automaker could be preparing an M version of their luxury lomousine. Unfortunately this is not true! The prototypes that were captured in the spy shots are nothing more than ordinary 7-Seires Bimmers wearing an M-sports package.

While the high performance aspect of factory tuned BMW 7-Series is till being left to luxury tuners Alpina, and their B7. More mundane 7-Series owners can at least make their vehicles look the part with the M-sport’s redesigned front bumper, grills in the fenders and quad tipped exhaust out back.

Despite this sad new we are still awaiting a BMW M7, however settling for an Alpina won’t be that hard. We wouldn’t be surprised to find out that BMW is planning on creating a GT version of the stretched four door to go along with the 5 Series Grand Tourer.

BMW 7-Series

BMW has launched the first details on the 2010MY 7-Series. For the first time, the luxury sedan will get a M Sports Package and starting this autumn the company will add the 740d to the line-up.

For 2010, the 7-Series will be available with three gasoline and two diesel variants, while the xDrive all-wheel drive will also be introduced for the first time.

The BMW 740d is powered by a six-cylinder power unit that delivers 306 hp and 442 lbs-ft of torque, sprints from standstill to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds and is limited electronically in its top speed to 155 mph.

The M Sport package adds chrome trim on the specially designed front and rear aprons, illuminated M entry trim and BMW Individual High-Gloss Shadow Line, 19-inch M light-alloy wheels in double-spoke design featuring different-sized tyres front and rear.

Is there a future for a BMW M7?

The top brass from Munich have officially shot down any possibility for a future BMW 7-Series wearing an M badge. That role of a high performance limousine has traditionally been left to Alpina. But apparently, just the other day, spy photographers caught this stretched Bimmer that reportedly "really seems like an M version of the 7-Series." So the question is, what was it?

BMW representatives have said that the M image doesn’t fit in a limousine model, but just a short while ago, they said the same thing about the X5 SUV, a vehicle that is now part of their lineup. So, what’s the true story behind this camouflaged 7-Series.

A closer look at the prototype seen in the photo reveals plenty of M characteristics; like the larger big mouth front bumper and what could be a hood made from lightweight aluminum. If this is the case, and there is going to be an M7, it will most likely be powered by the same twin-turbo eight cylinder found in the BMW X6 M, with an expected output somewhere between 500 and 550 HP.

Check out the link below to see the rest of the spy photos.
