The MTM tuner is coming with a customization program that improved the engine’s power for both Audi S4 and the new S5 Cabrio. The Audi S4 powered by the 3.0 TFSI engine, becomes more powerful thanks to the use of a new approved control device M-Cantronic and a new 4 rear pipes silencers with throttle valves. As a result the MTM S4 delivers a total of 430 hp and can hit a top speed of 177 mph.
The S5 Cabrio equipped with the same M-Cantronic system and a new exhaust systems with throttle valves in 4 rear pipes optic delivers a total of 430 bhp and 515 Nm.
Both models are offered with 19" or 20" rims in the original Bimoto design.
In a direct sign of the times, price cuts among car makers have become an increasing trend. With the entire auto industry grasping at straws just to sell their vehicles, most have relied on slashing off prices from their cars as a way to getting some sales. Case in point: Audi recently released the price for the 2010 S4 and as has been widely expected, the car’s price tag has been significantly cut.
The car, which was sold at a base price of $57,000, has now been slashed to $45,900 for the 2010 model. According to the guys at Audi, the move was prompted as a repositioning strategy to make the S4 “more attainable witout compromises in performance or features.” Our translation: “We need to sell cars, so we’re offering them at a lower price.”
The consequences of the S4’s slashed prices results in a downgrade, albeit not a big one, in the car’s engine: from a 4.2-liter V-8 to a supercharged V6. Despite that, the S4 still boasts of premium features that makes the reduced $45,900 price tag seem like a good bargain.
Audi today announced prices for the 2010 S4 and A5/S5 Convertible models. The S models will go on sale in August, followed by a fall debut for the A5 Convertible. The S4 sedan is priced at $45,900 for the manual version and at $47,300 for the S tronic one. The A5 Cabriolet 2.0T multitronic front-wheel drive is priced at $42,000, the A5 Cabriolet 2.0T Tiptronic quattro at $44,100 and the S5 at $58,250.
The 2010 S4 is powered by a 3.0T V6 FSI direct injection supercharged engine with 333 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque.
All the models will be offered with: 3G MMI (Multi Media Interface) with 3D map graphics and SIRIUS traffic displays the latest evolution of 3D navigation, joystick control for navigation map destination finding, updated graphical clarity, SIRIUS® artist/title preview, and SIRIUS traffic-based navigation. The S4 sedan features voice-based destination input control, and voice inputs such as “I’m hungry,” “I need gas” and “I need coffee”.
The German tuners at ABT Sportsline have come up with a new performance program for the Audi S4. The high performance specialists are raising the supercharged V6’s output from 333 HP all the way up to 435 HP. With the the additional 102 HP, the S4 is now able to sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in just 4.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 175 MPH.
ABT dressed up the vehicle in order to compliment the new found performance under the hood. Out back the rear end is spruced up by the quad exhaust tips sticking out from underneath the back bumper. An improvement that can bee seen from all four sides of the four ringed tuner car are a set of upgraded rolling stock. ABT Sportsline is offering aftermarket wheels sized anywhere from 18 to 20 inches for the S4. Personally we find the larger the better. The kit will set you back about $5,400 and although that may seem like a nice chunk of change, remember that not only will your Audi look better, but it will also performa like a champion.
The German tuning house, MTM, has just revealed a new performance upgrade for the Audi S4 and A6 that are equipped with the automaker’s 3.0 Liter TFSI six cylinder engine. Thanks to a M-Cantronic system the S badged entry level sedan now makes 430 HP, that is almost 100 HP above the stock output, all without having to turn a wrench and get your hands dirty. The same computer retune is available for the TFSI equipped A6s, but in the larger sedan, the increase is only good for about 70 HP.
Besides the improved performance of the smart engine software, MTM is also offering their new signature sport tuned exhaust system for the vehicles wearing a four ringed emblem. The exhaust can be finished off with either a quad tip, oval tailpipe or a blacked out unit so that you won’t see anything at all. Completing the handling part of the performance upgrade, MTM also equips the Audi’s with a set of 19 to 21 inch Bimoto wheels with a big brake upgrade underneath as well as an MTM height adjustable coilover suspension.
Just because the world’s automakers are downsizing their engine opitions doesn’t mean that you have to settle for a lesser vehicle. Take the Audi S4 for example. The car started out as a wonderful bi-turbo V6, but then German automaker wanted to take the entry level sedan DTM racing, so they shoehorned a V8 in between the strut towers and sold to car to the public. The last generation RS4 was an even better car, with a 420 HP 4.2 Liter FSI engine and quattro all wheel drive system it was like an early R8 with the body on backwards. With tighter emissions and fuel consumption becoming more an more of an issue, the current generation S4 had been reduced back to a six cylinder with a blower sitting in the "v".
As an automotive consumer you do not have to settle for this, this is when you turn to the aftermarket, and the German tuning house, MTM is prepared to help you with a simple computer module that will take the 3.0 Liter TFSI engine from 328 HP all the way up to 424 HP without getting your hands dirty. The twisting force is raised from 324 lb-ft up to 379 lb-ft of torque and the upgraded S4 will sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in only 4.6 down from the standard car’s 5.2 second sprint. The modification will set you back 2491 Euro if you want to go to MTM directly, but we are sure for a few more they will figure out a way to raise the 155 MPH speed limiter.
We already knew that Audi was moving the S4 and the S5 from V8 engines to smaller, lighter turbo V6 units. But now Car and Driver is reporting that the V6s are just a stairstep on the way to reducing the cylinders by half.
This does make sense. Audis have become a little portly in their pursuits for horsepower. For example, the 2010 S5 Cabriolet weighs in at 4300, which is about as much as a Ford Explorer.
Audi acknowledges that this weight disadvantage could really hurt it in the future, and is now taking great steps to fix it. When the new S4/S5 appears in 2014, it will incorporate more aluminum, magnesium, and high-strength steel for weight reduction. It will also switch to turbocharged four-cylinder engines. The result will be a car that has 20 percent less weight and up to 30 percent less engine displacement.
While we’re usually not fan of smaller engines, Audi does seem to have a good guide to follow. The current TT lineup doesn’t have to cross into six-cylinder territory to get 340 hp with the TT RS.
German tuners TurboArt have successfuly generated in excess of 700 hp from the Audi S4. The cars mass has been lowered to 1,513 kilograms (about 3330 lbs.) That’s about a 540 lbs. weight savings.
In order to get the power to the ground the TurboArt Audi S4 uses a Bilstein suspension, BBS CH rims and Dunlop SportMaxx GT rubber. Safety in the TurboArt Audi S4 is highlighted by a roll cage and Recaro race buckets. During the evaluation at the Papenburg race track the TurboArt Audi S4 recorded a 0 to 300 km/h (186 mph) sprint in 26.94 seconds.
Unfortunately the engine modifications necesary to produce such power is a guarded secret of the gentlemen at TurboArt.
Audi may have gone for a few laughs with its Super Bowl ad for the U.S., but its going artistic to promote the new S4 at home in Europe.
When the S4 arrives in Germany’s showrooms this fall it will be powered by a 3.0 TFSI that delivers 333 hp and a peak torque of 325 lb-ft. It makes the 0 to 60 mph sprint in 5.1 seconds while top speed is limited to German gentlemen’s agreement of 155 mph.
After unveiling the European specification on the 2009 S4, Audi also revealed USA data on the car. The S4 sedan will go on sale in Fall of 2009 as a 2010 model, with pricing to be announced at a later date, but according to the company will be similar to the outgoing model. S4 Avant body style will not be offered in the USA. S4 will compete with BMW M3 sedan and Mercedes-Benz AMG C63.
