One unlucky Audi R8 owning Californian learned what it feels like to be a piece of meat in when he unexpectedly taken from behind by a BMW 6 Series and sandwiched between it and a much larger (and heavier) Range Rover SUV. Unfortunately for the four ringed super car driver his dream car now looks like it was chewed up and spat out like a rotten piece of salami. The good part is that the Audi’s aluminum skin took the brunt of the impact and everyone inside was fine, however the worst part is that the R8’s aluminum skin too the brunt of the impact and even a slight fender bender looks like quite a bit of damage.
On the upside, if the red R8 owner’s insurance is any good and the adjuster is a nice guy, this just might be the perfect excuse to upgrade his wheels to the new 5.2 Liter V10 powered aluminum super car. Honestly there is no excuse for 4.2 Liter FSI owners to trade in their perfectly good mid engine machines, if it is a bump in output that they are after then the aftermarket already has a plethora of forced induction options that makes the old car even more powerful than the new car and combined with the V8’s weight savings should make for a more nimble machine. That is if you aren’t provided with an opportunity like this guy. This is just another silver lining on a very ominous dark cloud, it just depends on how you look at it.
The crew from Heffner Performance is back and this time they are teasing us with an audio track from their latest creation, a twin turbo kit for the Audi R8. You ought to remember these fellows because the last time we talked about them the topic of conversation was a 1005 HP Gallardo, so this boosted R8 is sure to impress.
Even though the twin turbo kit for the Audi will only net you about half the horse power as the Gallardo we previously mentioned, it is more than an adequate alternative to trading in your R8 for the new V10 model. However just being able to admire that beautiful pipe work every morning might be reason enough to upgrade. According to the folks at Heffner; "As of now the car is running on 6 psi and a 11.8 to 1 AFR and probably has a little more ignition timing removed than necessary to be on the safe side for now. This set up has given us a result of 536 RWHP. This is a 183 RWHP gain (more than a 50% increase) over what the car had when it came in with a Stasis exhaust and Revotech ecu tune. We will also be doing a 100 octane program that we expect to get near 600 RWHP which should put this car solidly in the high 10 second quarter mile range."
It’s not every day that you see the host of the BBC’s Top Gear, Jeremy Clarkson, not criticizing a car. Although it is hard to find faults with the new Audi R8 V10, especially when at speed on the racetrack. As Mr. Clarkson points out, there are automobiles that better serve a purpose, like a Land Rover in a field or a Bugatti Veyron at a Concours, but according to one of the biggest car critics in the world, there is no car that is better suited than the new R8 for a lapping session. The Audi’s 5.2 Liter V10 engine comes from the Lamborghini Gallardo and sends a total of 525 HP to all four wheels through the German automaker’s patented Quattro all wheel drive system. The newest Audi super car accelerates the from 0 to 60 MPH in 3.9 seconds while the car’s top speed goes up to 196 MPH.
The new and improved V10 powered Audi R8 5.2 Liter FSI delivers a maximum output of 525 HP straight from the factory, and even though the ten cylinder engine shares almost all of its architecture with the more exotic Lamborghini Gallardo LP-560, the Italina super car puts out a total of 550 HP. However owners need not worry, because for a few extra Euro they can upgrade the brains of their R8 thanks to the German tuning firm MTM no matter whether they enjoy fixed roof motoring or enjoy their four ring super car with the wind in their hair.
For only 6000 Euros MTM will tune the V10 to deliver an additional 63 HP, bringing the total up to 588 HP, well above the Lambo. The added performance brings the standard car’s 3.9 second 0 to 60 MPH time down by 0.1 seconds and increases the mid engine super car’s top speed to 201 MPH. If you have some more money to burn then you might want to spring for the free flowing stainless steel exhaust system, upgraded Brembo brakes and a shiny new set of wheels to celebrate you car’s newfound performance.
Not only the Murcielago LP640 had a bad week-end. A beautiful Creventic Audi CR-8 was also destroyed during a test drive. The car, which cost around 180,000 euro was being prepared for a race team. Both father and son took the car on the Oude Rijksweg highway. But the test drive didn’t ended as planned.
Apparently the father was driving the car, he lost control, crashed into a road sign and grazed a tree. The son ended with an injured leg.
According to police reports the car, the car was being driven with no more 30-40 km/h, so they have no idea yet of what might have happened. However, the car’s suspensions, rear wheel and spoiler are destroyed.
Specialized hard drive maker Flash Rods has created an external hard drive disk in the form of, wait for it, a 1:18 scale model of an Audi R8.
What better way to show to the world how much of a car enthusiast you are with these two car-inspired computer hardwares. The Audi R8 hard drive, which will be available beginning on the 1st of November, comes in three disk spaces, including a 250GB, a 500GB, and a 640GB. A number of colors are also available so you can choose what color of the R8 best suits your taste and personality.
While we already know when the R8 hard drive will drop on store shelves, we still don’t know how much it costs. But if we can look as previous models as precedents – Flash Rods already has a Dodge Challenger and a Nissan GT-R hard drive – then the 250GB version should cost somewhere around the neighbourhood of $200.
We have been eagerly anticipating the even more powerful Audi R8 ever since words were first spoken about the Lamborghini rivaling 5.2 Liter FSI V10 powered four ring super car. Fortunately for us, the German luxury car builder brought this bright white example to the 2009 Miami Auto Show for all of South Florida to see. The R8 V10 will be powered by the same 5.2 liter V10 as the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4. The engine is rated at 525 HP, which is 105 more ponies than the V8 version but still about 27 HP less than the Gallardo. Officially known as the Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro, It can go from 0 to 60 MPH in 3.9 seconds. When equipped with R tronic semi-automatic gearbox, it reaches 125 MPH in another 8.1 seconds and can reach a top speed of 196 MPH while selling for nearly $180,000.
What could be more beautiful than a high performance sports car driving in the rain, everything from the sound of the super car cutting through the precipitation, tiny droplets of water racing up the windscreen and rooster tails being shot up from behind the car as well as the occasional controlled slide on the less than grippy surface. Well thanks to our friends at Sharp Magazine we can bring you this red hot V10 powered Audi R8 super car dance on a damp race track.
The R8 V10 will be powered by the same 5.2 Liter V10 power plant as the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4. The engine is rated at 525 HP, which is 105 HP more than the standard V8 R8 but still about 27 less than the Lamborghini. Officially known as the Audi R8 5.2 FSI Quattro, the new super car can go from 0 to 60 MPH in just 3.9 seconds and equipped with Audi’s optional R-tronic semi automatic gearbox and a long enough stretch of pavement, the V10 R8 will reach a top speed of around 196 MPH.
Barely a month after it was first introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the all-new Audi R8 Spider has found its way into Audi’s new flagship dealership in London.
The convertible version of Audi’s supercar, the R8, the R8 Spider is still not for sale until the spring of 2010. Nevertheless, the car brand has decided to display the car as a way of enticing prospective buyers of what they’re in store for as soon as the R8 Spider goes on sale.
As far as performance is considered, the R8 Spider retains much of the same specifications of the hard-top version, especially the 5.2-liter V10 engine and all-wheel drive system found in the 5.2 FSI R8 coupe. If there was any difference between the two – apart from the obvious roof-of-choice – the R8 Spider weighs in at about 100 kg more than the coupe version, thanks in large part to balancing the car’s weight with the weight of the retractable roof. As a result of the ‘bulkier’ Spider version, the car’s top speed falls just a tad under the 194 mph coupe version, although, as we’ve said, the difference isn’t all that striking.
In any case, the new R8 Spider is set to go on sale at the spring of 2010 where it will be sold from £109,580. If prospective buyers are interested in equipping the R8 Spider with an R-tronic transmission, they’ll have to shell out a few more euros - £114,670, to be exact – before they can get their hands on one.
The tuners at VF Engineering have been developing forced induction systems for German built sports cars for a number of years now, however with the 525 HP V10 powered Audi R8 about to be unleashed on the streets their latest project could be their most profitable yet. VF’s latest endeavor includes one a 4.2 Liter FSI V8s a custom designed blower a little magic from GIAC and one of Audi’s mid engine aluminum super cars. The supercharger pumps a mere 5 psi of boost into the combustion chamber while the stratified injection has been retuned with a simple ECU reflash from the engine software scientists at GIAC.
What is so great about the package is that is will raise the current R8’s output from 420 HP all the way up to 550 HP, this makes a modified R8 even more powerful than the upcoming Lamborghini inspired ride. The 5.2 Liter V10 is only 75 pounds heavier than the FSI V8 version, so if the design team at VF Engineering can keep the roots style supercharger and intercooler light enough it will weigh a bit less too. Either way, the bargain that you get by modifying a slightly used super car as opposed to going out and purchasing a brand new 525 HP Audi R8 is simply undeniable.
