The German automaker Audi has just announced prices for the 2010 A4 and A5 sedan and coupe as well as the Q5 compact crossover. The Audi Q5 SUV is not only the heaviest of the bunch, but will also tip the monetary scales the most with a starting rice of $37,350 that climbs to $48,850 depending on how luxurious a packages you prefer.
Audi is offering new entry-level engines for both the Audi Q5 and Audi A4 Allroad. The Q5 gets the 2.0 TDI and the 2.0-liter TFSI, both in conjunction with the 6-speed manual transmission. The diesel engine is also available for the A4 Allroad.
Both engines are in-line four-cylinder engines with direct injection, with the diesel version developing 143 hp and the gasoline one 180 hp.
The Volkswagen tuner, Caractere has been adding a little more character to the smaller end of Audi’s SUV lineup. Keeping things simple, the men in charge of reworking the Q5 left the insides alone and instead focused on improving the crossover aesthetically. The stylists have given the Audi Q5 a much more aggressive exterior. The kit consists of a new front bumper with larger more aggressive openings and is still compatible with the factory optional S-line trim. The rear spoiler, offered with or without the winglets add to the sporty impression, but it is the wide wheel arches that set the Caractere Q5 apart from any other compact crossover.
Everything about the exterior is purpose built. The front bumper is specially designed to bring more fresh cool air to the engine. The rear diffuser and roof spoiler work together to improve the vehicle’s drag coefficient and allow the Q5 to move through the air with less restraint. The new wheels are a signature of the German tuners, the low profile tires allow the small SUV to go round corners easily improving grip and stability.

Not one to be left out, the luxury arm of the VW family, Audi, brought their own customized Q5 to the show. The 2009 Audi Q5 custom concept is powered by a 3.0 Liter TFSI V6 that puts out 408 HP, up from the standard 333 HP. The additional output allows the Audi badged SUV to sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in just 4.4 seconds.
Audi unveiled the all-new Q5 in China at the Beijing Auto Show, a SUV that combines the dynamism of a sports sedan with highly variable interior and versatile options for leisure-time and family use.
The dimensions alone indicate that this is a SUV of all-new proportions. Measuring 4.63 meters (15.19 feet) long and 1.88 meters (6.17 feet) wide, the Audi Q5 is just 1.65 meters (5.41 feet) high – making it sportier than any of its competitors. What’s more, this SUV sets another benchmark in its class with a low drag coefficient of 0.33.
The Audi Q5 is rolling off the production line in three engine variants – one gasoline engine and two TDI units. The 2.0 TFSI has been entirely redesigned. The high torque of 350 Nm (258.15 lb-ft) is available at 1,500 rpm and remains constant up to 4,200 rpm, with performance peaking at 155 kW (211 hp). The Audi Q5 2.0 TFSI sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 7.2 seconds, reaching a top speed of 222 km/h (137.94 mph). On average, the vehicle consumes just 8.5 liters of fuel per 100 km (27.67 mpg).

On average, the three-liter engine consumes 7.7 liters of fuel per 100 km (30.55 mpg).

Audi USA announced that the 2009 Q5 crossover will go o sale next spring at a price of $37,200. Pricing for the Audi Q5 Premium Plus starts at $41,500, and the Audi Q5 Prestige starts at $48,200. It will compete with models like Lexus RX, the BMW X3 or the Mercedes-Benz GLK.
The Audi Q5 is derived from the same Audi-exclusive platform first developed for the A4 model range. The versatility of that vehicle platform gives the Q5 the driving comfort and performance characteristics of a luxury performance automobile and the longest wheelbase in its class. The efficient engineering and design of the Q5 also translated into shorter front and rear overhangs for better weight distribution to help stability. Audi also widened the vehicle platform to increase shoulder room inside the Q5 and to optimize the driver’s seating position for a more commanding view of the road.
The Audi Q5 will also lead the segment of AWD, gasoline-powertrain crossover vehicles in fuel economy. According to the U.S. EPA, the Audi Q5 achieves 18 mpg city mileage and 20 mpg combined - both tops in the category - along with 23 mpg highway mileage.
