California is of the only states in the Union where action sports enthusiasts can make the most of crashing waves and fresh powder, so the Los Angeles Auto Show was the only logical location for Mazda to unveil two of its customized compact Mazda2 models. The Active2 Surf & Snow Special Concepts cater to the needs of those individuals who get their thrills riding one in to the beach or down the mountainside with a set of bindings connecting them to their board, these two new concepts offer a bit more fun than your standard subcompact offering.
The Active2 Surf is covered in a coat of Spirited Green paint and features a more aggressive front bumper and side skirts to go along with the white multi spoke 17 inch wheels and Active2 graphics that adorn the Mazda2 in graphite and white. The Active2 Snow is appropriately painted in Frozen White with an array of number 2s covering the front fender that houses an anthracite set of rims. Both models come with a rugged Thule roof rack system complete with matching snowboards or a surfboard made from lightweight carbon fiber.

There is no place like the world’s stage for an automaker to showcase the abilities and talents of their team and products. It was back in 1991 when the Japanese automaker Mazda entered the 24 Hours of LeMans for the 13th time in 18 years. Up until that point their best finish was in 7th place, something they managed to do twice, in 1987 and 1989. However in 1991 things were different; the race car was the al new four rotor 787B being driven by famed racing drivers Johnny Herbert, Volker Weidler and Bertrand Gachot. With the ex Formula One ace Jacky Ickx heading up the team, the mighty 787B managed to finish first at the end of the race twice around the clock, making Mazda the first Japanese automaker to earn an outright victory at the historic race.
As a tribute to that car, Mazda has unveiled the Mazda 2Evil Special Concept at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The compact Mazda features the same significant number 55 and an equally wild Ceramic Grey metallic paint scheme complete with subtle motor sports inspired graphics just like the iconic Group C race car.
The Mazda 2Evil Special Concept features a few modifications to the body, consisting of a more aggressive front chin spoiler and a deeper rocker panels for improved aerodynamics and a lower overall stance, with a lower diffuser in the rear finishing off the ground effects package as well as a bolder rear spoiler mounted at the top of the hatch. Rounding out the compact Mazda 2’s sports inspired concept are a set of bright green 17 inch wheels wrapped in sticky Yokahama Advan tires.

Honda’s latest concept car offering made its cracking debut at the 2009 LA Auto Show and from the looks of things; it’s everything we thought it would be, for better or for worse. Called the Honda Personal-Neo Urban Transport – P-NUT for short – the new concept is Honda’s entry to the micro coupe market. Although concept cars generally are a hit-or-miss upon first glance, the P-NUT’s aesthetic appearance falls on the latter. We’re quite not sure how to explain it, except that it looks like some sort of gigantic flat iron, which, if you’re keeping track, isn’t a good thing.
We’ve seen some pretty crazy concept vehicles over the years and the P-NUT surely ranks among one of the weirdest we’ve seen in a while. For starters, the car has no side mirrors, which isn’t all too surprising given that this is a concept. In place of the missing mirrors – at least we think so – is a back-up camera. We’re also still waiting for an explanation as to where the headlights are – of course, it’s in the front but we find it hard to believe that those two slits are the actual headlights.

Although this is the customized 2011 Ford Fiesta at the LA Auto Show, it certainly won’t be the last of the blue oval’s compacts to be tuned. This red and white Fiesta was a collaboration between 3dCarbon and FSWerks and takes full advantage of Fiesta’s European styling and rock solid foundation and power train to springboard the B segment hatchback to the next level of street authority.
Now this racing stripe wearing Fiesta is no show pony, thanks to the combination of the FSWerks Stage 2 intercooled turbo kit and a less restrictive free flowing 2.25 inch exhaust gives the little 1.6 Liter Fiesta enough grunt to play with the big boys and adequately matches the 3dCarbon body kit’s aggressive appearance. The aero package is made up of a big mouth front bumper and matching ground effects that issue a bold challenge to contenders while at the track the FSWerks components ensure that the tuned Fiesta can not only talk the talk, but walk the walk as well.
The North American version of the Mazda2 compact car made its debut today at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The model will be launched into North American market in late summer, 2010 and will have a very serious competitor in the new 2011 Ford Fiesta.
The new Mazda2 is characterized by a combination of dynamic performance, sportiness and simplicity. The car’s exterior is characterized by a sporty wedge shape that conveys a strong sense of forward motion; a deeply sculpted form in which the body is drawn inward fore and aft of the A-pillars; and distinctive character lines that extend from the front fender arches to the body shoulders.
There is one thing Mazda did not reveal about their new model: the engine line-up. But they did announced the Mazda2 will feature an improved steering and braking systems and a highly regarded suspension system, which has MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion-beam axle at the rear.
